Big Time Rush (also known as BTR) is an American boy band formed in Los Angeles, California, in 2009. They are featured on a television show on Nickelodeon also called Big Time Rush The show has featured other American stars, including the Pussycat Doll's Nicole Scherzinger. The band consists of members Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Carlos Pena Jr. and Logan Henderson. The band released its debut album, BTR in October 2010. It peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Gold by the RIAA for sales of over 500,000 copies. A second studio album, Elevate, was released on November 21, 2011.


2009-2010: Beginnings and BTR

Big Time Rush signed a record deal in 2009 simultaneously with the television series, Big Time Rush. Their debut single, "Big Time Rush", was released on November 29, 2009.^[1] It debuted during a one-hour special preview of the series and it is currently the show's opening theme. The series also saw the releases of other promotional singles including "City Is Ours" and "Any Kind of Guy". Big Time Rush also covered a Play song titled "Famous". The song was released on iTunes on June 29, 2010. Another song, "Halfway There", was released to iTunes on April 27, 2010 after its premiere on the series.^[2][3] The single has become their first to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 93 due to strong digital sales.^[4]

On September 21, 2010, Big Time Rush released a promotional single, "Til' I Forget About You", to promote the release of their debut album.^[5] The album, titled B.T.R., was released on October 11, 2010. It debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200, selling 67,000 copies in its first week of release. The album also peaked at number 4 on the "Top Internet Albums" and number one on "Top Soundtracks". Its track "Big Night" debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 79, making it their highest peaking single. The album was later certified Gold for shipments of 500,000 copies in the U.S. and has currently sold over 900,000 copies worldwide.^[6] In November 2010, it was announced that aChristmas special of Big Time Rush would debut later that month, and that a Christmas EP would be released to coincide with the episode. The EP, titled Holiday Bundle was released on November 30, 2010. They covered All I Want For Christmas Is You, originally performed byMariah Carey, with fellow Nickelodeon star Miranda Cosgrove. On February 15 2011, "Boyfriend" was released as the band's first official single to mainstream US radio.^[7] "Boyfriend" peaked at number seventy-two on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming their most successful song to date. It peaked at number 30 on the Billboard Pop Songs chart in March 2011. A remix of "Boyfriend" which featured New Boyz was leaked onto the internet. Big Time Rush was Nominated For MTV's Breakthrough Band award Honor in 2011 As Well.^[8]

2011-present: Elevate and Better With U Tour

On July 22, 2011, the band released a promotional single, "If I Ruled The World" featuring Iyaz, off their second album, Elevate released on November 21, 2011. The first single, "Music Sounds Better With U," written by the band and Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic, was released on November 1, 2011. Elevate debuted at number 12 on the Billboard 200, for selling over 70,000 copies in its first week. According to Forbes.com, Big Time Rush has amassed a net worth of about $8 million dollars in 2011 making them one of the youngest top earners of that year. Shortly before the release of the Elevate, the band announced a national tour.

The Better With U Tour starting in February 2012, which counts with sixteen dates. Several dates sold out within minutes of the announcement. British-Irish boyband One Direction will be touring with Big Time Rush for 10 out of sixteen dates.

*Logan Henderson:

Logan Henderson was born in North Richland Hills, Texas and raised in nearby Dallas, Texas. At the age of 18, Logan moved to California to pursue an acting career. His first acting job was as a guest star on the NBC show Friday Night Lights. Logan's big break would come in August 2009 when he landed a co-starring lead role in the show Big Time Rush. Logan is also a member of the pop music band Big Time Rush. In his free time Logan says he's an adrenaline junkie, and will attempt anything that gives him a rush. Logan enjoys wakeboarding, skateboarding or snowboarding. He also loves the outdoors with activities like hiking. Logan currently resides in Los Angeles, CA.

*Kendall Schmidt:

Kendall Schmidt was born on November 2, 1990 in Wichita, Kansas in the United States. Growing up Kendall watched his older brothers Kenneth and Kevin pursue careers as actors in Hollywood, frequently flying back and forth from Kansas to LA. Kendall later decided that he also wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, at the age of 10 the Schmidt family made the move from Kansas to Los Angeles.  After that move it didn't take long before Kendall starting booking more and more parts, he began by acting in a couple of commercials which lead to roles on big television shows such as Gilmore Girls, ER, CSI: Miami, Phil of the Future, Without A Trace, and even played a young Frasier in an episode of that show. In addition to acting, Kendall found another passion, music. Kendall began writing and producing his own music and learned to play instruments such as the guitar. He would also began producing songs for his brother Kevin's webshow "Poor Paul" and movie, "The Alyson Stoner Project", he also formed the band Heffron Drive with his friend Dustin Belt. All the hard work and dedication to acting and singing paid off when he landed a co-starring lead role in the show Big Time Rush, which also included a deal to be part of the band under the same. Kendall currently lives in Los Angeles, California with his family and pets.

*James Maslow:James David Maslow was born on July 16, 1990 in New York, New York. After moving from city to city in his early years, he was raised in La Jolla, California, a suburb of San Diego. James started his training for singing at the age of 6 when his parents required him to be in the San Diego Children's Chior. This started James' passion for singing and preforming. After attending La Jolla & Torrey Pines elementary schools as well as Muirlands Middle School, James transferred to San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts. Well in high school, James got himself his first agent at the age of 14 and starred as Danny Zuko in Grease and Marius in Les Miserables. About half-way through his sophomore year of high school, James decided to transfer once again to the Coronado School of the Arts, thus choosing preforming over his other love of football. He tested out of high school in 2006 at the age of 16. It was in 2008 that James got to make his  television debut. He landed a guest starring role as Shane on the Nickelodeon hit series  iCarly in the episode "iSaw Him First". But James' big break came in 2009 when he was casted for a co-starring lead role in a new television series called Big Time Rush. James sent in his audition tape in 2007 and beat out thousands of other boys for the role. Maslow along with Kendall Schmidt, Logan Henderson, and Carlos Pena Jr. were all casted for the TV show. Since then they have recorded many songs for both the TV show and the boy band under the same name. Big Time Rush's debut album "B.T.R." was released on October 11, 2010.
When James isn't spending time filming or touring for the band, Maslow enjoys surfing, riding horses, and mountain climbing. He also plays the guitar and piano, trains in Saito Ninjutsu, a form martial arts that he learned from his father.

*Carlos Pena:

Carlos Pena Jr. was born in Columbia, Missouri and is best known for his role as Carlos Garcia in the Nickelodeon television show, Big Time Rush. When he was 7 his family was moved to Weston, Florida, and attended The Sagemont Upper School. Carlos started his new found love when he was 12. "It all started with singing". That then led to musical theatre and much more. When he was 13, he booked his first national commercial. "Super Soaker". That led Carlos to pursue his career even farther. In (2003) Carlos came out to California for an acting competition, which to his advantage went extremely well. He placed first in all the categories that he had competed in. After the competition he signed with a new manager and landed a fantastic agent. Carlos was screen tested for the role of "Ned", on Nickelodeon's hit show Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. He was not chosen, but would later guest star on the show as King Bee in 2004 and 2005. Carlos also guest stared on shows such as E.R., Judging Amy, and Summerland. After graduating high school in 2008, Carlos decided to attend the Boston Conservatory for music.  
             Shortly after finding out the news that he landed a co-starring lead role in the show Big Time Rush, Carlos left for the California coast. In addition to   the TV show, Carlos is also part of
the pop music band, Big Time Rush. After reviving the news about Big Time Rush, Carlos said, "I am thrilled to be on the show. It's the best of both worlds to act and have your own TV show and also to sing and record in the studio. Hopefully, we will one day sell out Staples and perform in front of 70,000 people!" Not only does Carlos sing and act, but him, along with the other members of Big Time Rush, are signed to Sony Music Publishing as a songwriter, some of the songs he wrote are featured on Big Time Rush's albums. In his free time, he loves going out on the boat, wake boarding with friends,and going underwater scuba diving. He hopes to perform on Broadway and to be one of the few Latinos to win Best Actor at the Oscars in the future.
